About
Hi — I'm Russell.
I photograph and film weddings in Vermont, and I have been doing it for 8 years. I live in South Burlington with a camera bag that is always half-packed.

It started in 2018 with a first camera and no particular plan. I was curious about what it could do, then curious about what I could do with it, and somewhere in there it stopped being a hobby.
What kept me on weddings specifically is that they are the only day most people ever hire someone to document properly — and the only day where everyone who matters to you is in one room at the same time. That is a strange, brief, unrepeatable thing, and I take it seriously.
The way I work is fairly simple. I stay close and stay out of the way. I would rather photograph your grandmother laughing at something off-camera than arrange fourteen people into a line. When I do direct, it is brief and it is for a reason. The pictures I am proudest of are almost always the ones nobody noticed me taking.
I shoot film as well as stills, which is less common than it sounds. Most photographers do not, and most videographers do not shoot stills. Doing both means the coverage is planned once, from one timeline, and you are not refereeing two vendors who met for the first time in your ceremony aisle.
Outside of weddings I built a wedding timeline planner, mostly because I got tired of watching couples lose their portrait light to a schedule nobody had pressure-tested. Every couple I photograph gets it free.
What a day with me looks like
Before the day
We build your timeline together in the planner, so hair and makeup finish when the light is still worth using. I talk to your venue and your other vendors so nobody is finding out about anything on the morning.
Getting ready
I arrive early and stay quiet. Mostly I am photographing what is already happening — the dress on the door, your mum doing up a button, the room before anyone else is in it.
The ceremony
Two cameras, long lenses, no flash unless the room genuinely needs it. If there is film coverage, it is planned around the photography rather than fighting it.
Portraits
Twenty minutes, not two hours. Enough direction that you are not standing there wondering what to do with your hands, and not so much that it stops looking like you.
The reception
Speeches, first dances, and then the part of the night nobody remembers to plan for. I stay until the dance floor is properly going.
Afterwards
A sneak peek within 72 hours while you are still on the high. The full gallery within six weeks, films within ten.
The practical things
- Based in
- South Burlington, Vermont
- Where I shoot
- Vermont, the Adirondacks, the White Mountains, and anywhere worth the drive.
- Gear
- Dual-card mirrorless bodies with full backup, fast primes, cinema rig, wireless audio, and a licensed drone.
- Backup
- Every frame writes to two cards as it is taken, and everything is copied offsite the same night. Nothing has ever been lost, and the setup is built so it cannot be.
- Insurance
- Fully insured, including venue liability — most venues will ask for a certificate, and I will send it directly to them.
